Arizona Sikh Medical Association was established in November
of 1993 and has come long way since. The idea originated in the minds
of few sikh physicians after attending a medical meeting in one of the
local hospitals. Dr. Baljit Singh coordinated the first meeting where
some medical literature was reviewed in round table discussion format.
The meeting was so successful that a unanimous decision was made to create
an official organization and hold such meetings on a monthly basis. Arizona
Sikh Medical Association was the name decided. During their next meeting
the officials were elected. Dr. Jagwinder S. Sraow was elected as the
first president and Dr. Baljit Singh as the first secretary of the organization.
Since then, the organization has been holding its meeting regularly every
second friday of the month. The membership has grown from original 8 members
to more than 100 now. Dr. Aljinder Mangat is serving as the president
for the current year.
